Dear Girl Scout Adults,
Girl Scouts of the USA will convene 53rd National Council Session October 16 - 19, 2014 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Girl Scouts from all over the nation and world will converge on Salt Lake for this existing and important meeting for the Girl Scout Movement.
Purpose of the National Meeting is to engage in conversations on important topics facing Girl Scouts and all girls, participate in an array of educational opportunities through Girl Scouts University, and network, mingle and renew friendships, while we celebrate the work of the movement.
In addition, elected delegates to the convention will participate in the governance work of the session by electing a National Board of Directors and National Board Development Committee, provide direct input to the National Board on major topics to help drive the direction of the Girl Scout Movement, vote on proposals and amendments to the Constitution placed on the agenda, and receive the National Board report on its stewardship of the movement.
Girl Scouts - Diamonds of Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas will be represented at this gathering by six official delegates and two alternates. These participants will be charged with representing the council in any voting or consensus gathering discussions, as well as, bringing back to the council information and resources.
Position descriptions for national delegates are located on the left below. The application for these positions is also found on this page and can be submitted online using the form below, or printed from the copy below left, completed and mailed or emailed to Denise Stewart, Diamonds CEO. Deadline to submit delegate applications is March 31, 2013.
The council's Board Development Committee will review all applications and recommend a slate of national delegates to the Board of Directors at the May board meeting. This slate will then be presented to the membership and voted on at the Annual Meeting, scheduled for July 20, 2013 on the campus of UCA in Conway.
Delegates will be elected for a three year term, beginning at the end of the 2013 Annual Meeting and ending at the end of the 2016 Annual Meeting.
Those wishing to attend the convention as visitors will indicate their intentions on the application. All registration, travel, and housing expenses are covered by the council for official delegates and alternates. Visitor expenses are covered by individual participants. Council scholarships may be available to cover partial expenses and will be announced at a later date.
This is an exciting opportunity to become involved in the national organization and its work, as well as, representing the Diamonds Council. The experience will provide memories for a lifetime!
