    <title>Healthy Media Commission Report</title>
    <link>http://www.girlscoutsdiamonds.org/CouncilInfo/News/tabid/71/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/46/Healthy-Media-Commission-Report.aspx</link>
    <description>On
November 13, Anna Maria Ch&amp;aacute;vez, CEO of Girl Scouts of the USA, and the Healthy
Media Commission released The Report and Recommendations of the Healthy
Media Commission for Positive Images of Women and Girls at the Geena Davis
Institute&amp;rsquo;s Third Symposium on Gender in Media in Los Angeles, California. This
report outlines recommendations that support a more positive and gender-neutral
media environment for women and promotes the healthy development of a girl&amp;rsquo;s
social, emotional, and physical well-being.&amp;nbsp;Girl Scouts of Greater Los
Angeles CEO Lise Luttgens and several of her girls will participate in the
launch event.
&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;

Recognizing
the need for gender balance and positive portrayals of women and girls in the
media, Girl Scouts of the USA&amp;mdash;along with the National Association of
Broadcasters, the National Cable &amp;amp; Telecommunications Association, the
Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, and the Creative Coalition&amp;mdash;hosted the
Healthy Media for Youth Summit at the U.S. Capitol in October of
2010.&amp;nbsp;At the summit, a cross-section of stakeholders gathered to explore
this subject and chart a course to promote healthy media for the benefit of all
young people.&amp;nbsp;Participants at the summit recommended that a commission be
formed to more deeply explore these issues, identify emerging and best
practices, and create a sense of shared obligation and commitment to promoting
gender balance and positive portrayals of women and girls. The Healthy Media
Commission, which grew from an idea proposed at the summit, comprises more than
fifty leaders from the media industry, academia, youth-serving communities, and
the creative community. Girl Scouts of the USA has been a leader in the work of
the Healthy Media Commission and the development of The Report and
Recommendations of the Healthy Media Commission for Positive Images of Women
and Girls.
&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;

The
Healthy Media report is unique and innovative because it provides a detailed
blueprint of recommendations and strategies for four different categories of
stakeholders who impact the media culture, from the media creators themselves
to parents, educators, and youth. The belief is that each player has an equal
role and responsibility in facilitating change.&amp;nbsp; For each category,
recommendations are organized and tailored to empower individuals with the
ability to LEARN and to be aware of the depiction of women and girls in the
media, to CHOOSE media that uphold high standards, and to EDUCATE others on the
importance of the issue. This report is the crucial first step in creating a
more positive media environment for women and girls. It identifies emerging best
practices, and establishes a climate for change. To access the report and learn

    <title>TRAHC &amp; Diamonds Partner for 100th Display</title>
    <link>http://www.girlscoutsdiamonds.org/CouncilInfo/News/tabid/71/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/44/TRAHC-Diamonds-Partner-for-100th-Display.aspx</link>
<description>Throughout the year, Girl Scouts &amp;ndash; Diamonds of Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas has been celebrating the 100th anniversary in a variety of ways. This spring, Girl Scouts set up displays in museums all across the council as a way to formally kick-off Girl Scout Week and celebrate the centennial. Over the summer, programs and encampments offered vintage scouting opportunities to girls at all levels, and at the start of the new Girl Scout year, plans were already underway to keep the 100th going through the end of 2012 with the Oral History Project, Founder&amp;rsquo;s Day celebrations, and much more.
Now, as we are approaching the end of the year, Girl Scouts &amp;ndash; Diamonds is excited to collaborate with The Texarkana Regional Arts and Humanities Council to set up a display honoring the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scout Movement.
The display will be formally unveiled on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at a reception from 3:00 &amp;ndash; 6:00 pm at TRAHC, located at 321 West 4th Street in Texarkana, TX, and will remain up through the end of the year. Everyone is encouraged to visit the display and learn more about Girl Scouting through the years, and take a look back into previous decades of the Scouting Movement through educational pieces, historical artifacts and Girl Scout memorabilia.
In addition to the museum exhibition, local Girl Scouts were invited to participate in TRAHC&amp;rsquo;s Art Wall Project. Girls and leaders participated in art classes led by Ms. Kay Thomas, TRAHC&amp;rsquo;s ArtsSmart Artist Consultant, through the ArtsSmart Institute. Ms. Thomas worked with the participants to create works of art that communicated the &quot;Whole Role of Scouting,&quot; in addition to the common concepts of Scouting, such as cookies and camping. Participants&amp;rsquo; ideas were re-created on construction paper and then transformed into art panels that were painted by the original artists and helpers. The panels will be on display on the Art Wall at TRAHC and many of the construction paper art pieces will be displayed in the basement gallery.
For additional information about the Texarkana Regional Arts and Humanities Council, or to learn more about the Girl Scout display, or the Art Wall Project, please visit www.trahc.org. </description>
