Girl Scouts - Diamonds serves girls between the grades of 1st – 12th at summer camp locations across Arkansas.  At camp, girls have the opportunity to swim, hike, canoe, rock climb, kayak, do crafts and learn new outdoor skills such as archery; not to mention go on road trips and travel throughout the state.  More importantly though, they have the opportunity to experience new things, meet new people, increase their self-reliance, and build self- confidence.  (Our camp staff seems to have similar experiences!)

Qualifications:  

Girl Scouts - Diamonds seeks energetic, creative, responsible, motivated staff to help build, believe in, and belong to our camp community and help campers learn to do the same. Qualified individuals must have a love of children,be willing to live and work outdoors, and have a chance to learn and grow.

Preferred applicants are at least 18 years of age, except where otherwise specified, have some experience working with children and/or working outdoors. Must have good judgment, maturity, patience and sense of humor.

Staff should be available May 31 through the first week of August.

Positions Available:

Unit Counselors: assist the Unit Leader in identifying the needs and interests of individual campers and working with the staff team to accommodate them.  Interact directly with campers in day-to-day activities.  Maintain camp health and safety standards.

Unit Leaders:  are at least 21 years old and are responsible for planning and implementing the daily activities for the unit, supervising unit counselors, and maintaining all unit records and paperwork.  Must facilitate a cohesive community environment where each camper is appreciated as an individual.  Maintain camp health and safety standards.

Lifeguards:  (16 and up) assist with waterfront activities at the pool and the lake.  Provide a safe, fun environment for campers and staff.  Must have current ARC Life Guarding or equivalent or be willing to obtain.  Addition compensation provided based on experience and additional certifications and skills.  Maintain camp health and safety standards.

Riding Instructors:  (16 and up) teach girls horseback riding as well as assisting in all other areas of the riding program, such as safety management, program development, herd management, and equipment care and repair.

Riding Director:  assumes responsibility for the entire horseback riding program at camp, including all of the above areas (see Riding Instructors).  Riding Directors must be at least 21 years old and hold current CHA instructor certification or equivalent experience.

Canoeing Instructor:  teaches flat water canoeing and boating safety skills on a lake and leads a flat-water river trip.  Must be a currently certified ACA or ARC instructor.  Addition compensation provided based on experience and additional certifications and skills.

Waterfront Director:  is at least 21 years old and is responsible for planning and implementing the waterfront activities at the pool and the lake while providing a safe, fun environment for campers and staff.  Must be able to teach and supervise, respond in an emergency, and maintain pool and waterfront equipment.  Must have current ARC Life Guarding or equivalent.  Addition compensation provided based on experience and additional certifications and skills.

Program Director:  serves as a creative resource for unit staff, develops and runs program activities not limited to archery, outdoor and indoor games and sports, campfire programming, manages schedules, and works with staff and campers.  Keeps special guest presenter schedule and communicates with and lines up special guest presentations.  Maintains camp health and safety standards.

CIT (Counselor in Training) Director:  wears a lot of hats as teacher, counselor and mentor to upper high school aged campers who are training to become the next generation of Unit Counselors.  The CIT Director’s former camp counselor experience, insight to this age group, and sensitivity to this group’s needs brings about the perfect mix of growing and having fun for this leadership group of campers which is dedicated both to learning and to enjoying the camaraderie and fun of camp.

Kitchen Assistant:  (16 and up) helps with preparation and serving of meals, clean-up of kitchen and dining hall, dishwashing, packs campout orders, restocks, and other duties under the direction of the head cook and/or camp director.

Cook:  prepares one to two meals a day and oversees the kitchen assistants and kitchen operations during hours of duty.  Prepares a range of cold and hot main and side dish food options and snacks, following nutritional guidelines for a balanced diet and ensuring that any special dietary requirements are met.  Has the ability to lift heavy pots, pans, and kitchen utensils designed for serving large groups.

Health Supervisor:  is responsible for the general health of campers and staff.  Organize and maintain camp health center, including ordering supplies as needed, administering medications, and providing first aid or nursing care.  Maintain health cards and supervise health screening of incoming campers.  Works together with staff members to address needs of campers requiring special attention.  Work under the technical direction of a physician who is on-call.  Must be a currently licensed EMT, Paramedic, LPN, or RN.

Business Manager:  runs the camp store and is an important part of the customer service team – with lots of face to face time with parents and campers alike.  Helps keep camp running smoothly by maintaining regular paperwork, running errands to pick up supplies, etc, and tackling administrative, programming, organizational, or other tasks as assigned.

Assistant Camp Director:  assists to facilitate all aspects of camp program and organization under the supervision of the Camp Director.
