What are the requirements to volunteer?
Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age or older and are required to join Girl Scouts of the USA. The annual Girl Scout Volunteer membership is $15.00.
Each candidate for a volunteer position must successfully complete an application and criminal background check. Requirements for volunteering vary for different positions and activities. We work with each prospective volunteer to determine how to best meet their needs as well as the needs of the volunteer activity requirements.
My personal time is limited. Can I still be a Girl Scout volunteer?
Yes. We have volunteer opportunities for everyone, whether you have an hour a week, month or a year. Girl Scouts – Diamonds has volunteer opportunities available for any schedule.
There are now several ways to get involved simply by matching your expertise, skills, and interests with the opportunities available. We have volunteer opportunities for a day, a week or longer. Choose the pathway that is right for you.
Short Term opportunities
Series: Series opportunities are classes or workshops that connect girls with common interests such as science, outdoors, health and leadership. As a series volunteer, you will be able to lead a class of workshop with the same group of girls from four weeks to two months.
Events: Girl Scouts- Diamonds Council offers several one-day events. Event volunteers are needed in various capacities to help with everything from set up, clean up, or operating an activity. Girls can customize their Girl Scout experience and attend as many or as few events as they like.
Travel: Girl Scouts go places! Girls in grades 6 to 12 can take their Girl Scout experience to a whole new level as they see the world through a Travel Pathway. Girl Scouts sponsors regional, national, and international trips. Travel volunteers chaperone girls on various travel experiences.
Camp: Girl Scout camp provides a safe and fun environment where girls explore nature and enjoy outdoor activities. There are a variety of camp programs for girls ages 5 to 17. Camp volunteers can participate in a day camp for several afternoons, enjoy an overnight camp or register for a resident camp and serve for a week.
Long Term opportunities
Troop: Troops are formed by volunteers…you! A Girl Scout troop consists of at least two non-related adult volunteer troop leaders and at least five girls. Troops meet regularly (you choose how often) for the duration of the school year (August to May). Troops provide an opportunity for girls to discover, connect, and take action through a variety of activities including events, troop trips, cookies, badge work and community service.
Is volunteer training provided?
Online and traditional training is available. Girl Scouts – Diamonds Council offers a number of adult learning opportunities that prepare our volunteers with the skills necessary to deliver the Girl Scout Leadership Experience in accordance with the volunteer policies and procedures of Girl Scouts – Diamonds and Girl Scouts of the USA. . The Diamonds Council offers training for CPR and First Aid which is a required training for certain Girl Scout activities. For questions about volunteering, please contact email@example.com
