Girl Scouts Love State Parks! - Queen Wilhelmina State Park
Right about peak butterfly season, Queen Wilhelmina State Park holds an annual butterfly count. If you would like to participate, here is your chance. Each summer, people of all ages and walks of life join the count nationally to create an annual snapshot of the distribution and abundance of butterflies. The results of the count are published in Butterfly World which is a journal enjoyed by butterfly lovers and scientists around the globe. All ages and levels of expertise are welcome. We will spend six hours hiking and counting butterflies. Your Girl Scout participation can make a difference. Butterfly enthusiast Bruce Ewing will also set up his display of caterpillars at the Wonder House. Please bring a sack lunch and plenty of water, and wear sturdy hiking shoes and long pants. Or, if you prefer, purchase lunch in our State Park restraunt. Girls Scouts will have the oppourtunity to earn several badges: Bugs, Eco-Friends, Animal Habitats, and Outdoor Art Explorer! Fee includes your name published and the North American Butterfly Assocation Book and Girl Scouts Love State Parks! patch.
