Activity Accident Insurance Enhancement Effective October 1
GSUSA is pleased to announce an important coverage enhancement to Girl Scouts Activity Accident insurance with Mutual of Omaha which is effective on October 1, 2023. GSUSA and Mutual of Omaha have expanded the automatic coverage under Basic Plan 1 for Girl Scouts to include all invited non-member participants and domestic travel trips, without a time limit. This enhancement is expected to reduce costs to troops and minimize a distracting administrative burden for council staff and volunteers.
These plans cover participants* taking part in any council-approved, supervised Girl Scout activity. Activity Insurance Plan 3PI below is mandatory for all international travel. Insurance Plan enrollment forms are available by clicking on the links below. The minimum enrollment fee for each of the optional insurance plans is $5.00. If the Activity Insurance cost of your planned event is less than $5.00, you are still required to pay the minimum enrollment fee of $5.00. However, more than one event can be submitted on the same enrollment form to help meet the minimum fee.

Claims
To submit a claim:
1. Submit an incident report to Girl Scouts – Diamonds of Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas.
2. Complete Mutual of Omaha’s claim form and submit it to incident@girlscoutsdiamonds.org.
Upon receipt of the claim, a claim adjuster will be in contact with the member or their guardian. All claims are subject to review by Mutual of Omaha.
Plan 1 (Basic): Girl Scout Activity Insurance (accident only)
- Broadly covers accidental injuries (including food poisoning, tainted water ingestion and tick bites resulting in Lyme’s disease) to all Member and Non-member participants during any approved, supervised Girl Scouts activity regardless of event duration at no additional cost.
- Policy limits and exclusions do apply.
- Covers travel directly to and from the covered activities.
- Provides basic coverage for accident medical expense, accidental death, dismemberment, loss of eyesight and paralysis insurance.
- Covers injuries resulting in treatment by a legally qualified physician beginning within 30 days after the date of a covered accident.
- All claims are subject to review by Mutual of Omaha.
Who is covered under the basic plan?
- All registered Girl Scout participants of an approved Girl Scout activity or event.
- Non-members that are actively participating in an approved Girl Scout activity or event, including adults and minors.
- A tagalong is a person who attends an event but is not of age or skill level to participate. Tagalongs are covered under the basic activity accident plan but must be kept under continuous supervision of the child’s designated guardian or registered Girl Scout adult members, who have completed a background check with the council. Please note that tagalongs supervised under Girl Scout adult members must be on a separate volunteer-to-child ratio than participants.
- Non-members who are observing a Girl Scout activity or event are not covered. It is expected that parents and others will be involved in Girl Scouts from time to time, just as they usually do in PTAs, school events or sport games. This is done without expectation of reimbursement for medical expenses in case of accidental injury.
Risk Management Reminder: Adults participating in overnights must be a registered Girl Scout member with a completed and council approved background check.
- Premium cost is $0.70 per person, per day, with a $5.00 minimum enrollment fee.
- Covers members and non-members as participants; sickness benefits when illness/symptoms occur while coverage is in place
- Policy limits and exclusions do apply.
- Pays first, before personal medical insurance.
- Sickness coverage is intended for extended or long-distance trips.
- Covers travel to and from the covered activity.
- Insurance must be ordered for the entire period of the event and for 100% of the participants.
- All claims are subject to review by Mutual of Omaha.
- Premium cost is $1.17 per person, per day, with $5.00 minimum enrollment fee.
- Should a medical or other emergency occur while abroad, the group leader can contact AXA Assistance.
- Pre-trip concerns or questions can be answered by contacting AXA Assistance.
- Provides primary coverage for members and non-members participants.
- Covers accidents and illness incurred during international trips.
- Participant rosters that include ages must be completed and submitted with the application.
- Policy limits and exclusions do apply.
